We are visual learners.
If you make a vision board for the entire year, why not specify one to your finances!
This is a great idea for you and your significant other or for a friends get-together! You can even do a large one annually and have some smaller monthly ones that you rotate out as the year goes on. This will help you create more detail within the monthly boards.
There are some rules when it comes to a financial vision board. Generic is NOT the way to go.
GET SPECIFIC. I’m talking dates, dollar amounts, timelines. Generic wealth is too broad and encompasses too many things. If you REALLY want to get a handle on those goals and crush them, you’ve got to get down and dirty with the details.
Ex. Save $3500 over six months to put in my High Yield Savings Account for my Emergency Fund.
Giving everything a WHERE and WHY can also help you dwindle down those generic statements we like to make. It forces you to give everything a purpose and holds you more accountable.
Another great idea is to put pictures of your giant goals. I’ve got my dream house floorplan front and center that drives me to keep saving, investing, and continuing to make my money work for me. I also have my car, the fridge I want in my forever home, and the Mutual Fund I want to invest in that has a higher starter investment threshold. Those are things I have longed for but they were never a possible reality until I printed them and set them on my vision board. Now I have something to look forward to both figuratively and literally.
Include quotes or phrases from your favorite people that inspire you finically. One of my favorites is ‘I attract more of what I want by being grateful for what I have.’. Seeing this everyday reminds me to be grateful for where I currently am in life while striving for what I want to achieve in my future endeavors.
Display pictures of your family, your school logo, or whatever else is motivating you to do better with your money. Want to be stricter with your money so your kids know how to handle it before they reach your age? Post their picture up. Want to go to your dream school and get that degree? Pin up the school logo with the name of the degree next to it.
Of course, you will need to revisit and adjust accordingly. Life happens. And sometimes your goals change. That’s okay! Adjust your board by adding new goals. Don’t take anything off (unless you’ve reached it) I like to highlight my completed goals with a green sticky note 😉
